The work of Sophie Thun takes us through a fascinating, constantly expanding stream of photographic images revealing places and spaces in which the artist has worked and exhibited. As the author of her images, the artist is consistently present in her own work, whether by confidently meeting the camera’s gaze, integrating her equipment, or pressing her body directly onto the light-sensitive paper, leaving white silhouettes on the print.
Using methods such as cutting, splitting and multiplying, she depicts identity as a process and as something changeable and explores representation between multiplication and dissolution. Through layering space and time, interweaving and inserting images and image spaces, Thun deconstructs the photographic medium and refers to the many production processes that she visually condenses onto the surface of the image.
